(2) Comparative Indigenous Literatures of the Americas

The Department of English invites applications for two (2) tenure-track positions:

(1) A tenure-track appointment in Aboriginal Rhetorics and Literatures in Canada at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2013. The position will contribute to both the English Literature and the Rhetoric and Media Studies streams at the undergraduate level as well as the interdisciplinary M.A. in the Humanities. The successful candidate will be expected to develop new courses in Canadian literature and in traditional and emerging rhetorics, which may include oral traditions, story-telling practices, film-making, digital media or public discourse in Canada. There will be a significant opportunity to integrate classroom learning with real-world experience, for example, through projects and placements in Aboriginal communities. The Department of English has a history of partnerships with various Aboriginal organizations including the Debajehmujig Theatre Group, the Weengushk Film Institute and the Indigenous Health Research Development Program, and the successful candidate will continue to develop these relationships.

(2) A tenure-track appointment in Comparative Indigenous Literatures of the Americas at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2013. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate literature courses in English and Spanish from an Indigenous perspective, and to participate in the interdisciplinary M.A. in the Humanities. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English is required. The successful candidate will be appointed to the Department of English with a cross appointment to the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.

Applicants must have a completed Ph.D. or be near to completion, with demonstrated research productivity and teaching experience. Candidates should submit a statement of current and prospective research, a teaching dossier, a curriculum vitae, and three letters of reference.
