The Canadian Association for American Studies (CAAS) is deeply saddened by the recent passing of Priscilla “Percy” Walton, our long-time Treasurer, and editor of the Canadian Review of American Studies for the past 25 years. Percy was a valued member of CAAS, supporting and advancing the careers of many junior faculty. She was generous with her time, advice, and letters of reference. A fixture at our conferences, Percy was always ready with a question, a comment, or a quick conversation in the hallway between sessions. Percy was an indefatigable champion of graduate students, often encouraging conference presenters to submit their work to CRAS. Over the years, many of us in the organization have benefited from Percy’s kindness and her openness to working with graduate students and junior faculty on special issues of the journal. She was a warm, witty, and engaging scholar and person, and she will be missed by all.

Percy was amazing and supportive with my research project & for all her help & ideas & other works I will always be grateful. I will also remain grateful to her for introducing Thomas King to me with “Green Grass Running Water.”
I am terribly saddened to learn this news. Percy was, to me as she was to so many of us, a wickedly smart, funny, witty, learned supporter, scholar and friend. I wish her family to know, from just another one of us out here, that we know what a true gem she was and how much I will think of her and miss her.
